Along with Americans, Lithuanians will be paying tribute to the U.S. Senator John McCain from 31 August to 2 September. The national flag of the United States of America will fly at half-staff also in the Washington square in Vilnius.

On 6-7 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, together with the Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Krzysztof Czaputowicz, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs and the Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko, is visiting Sakartvelo (Georgia) on the occasion of the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the Russian military aggression against Saktarvelo.

On 2 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the United States congressional, which was headed by Hal Rogers, Chairman of the State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Subcommittee of the United States House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations. The meeting focused on the Lithuania-U.S. cooperation in response to Russian threat, sanctions, energy security, and support for the spread of democracy.

Our position is based on our unwavering commitment to international law and our conviction that Russia has blatantly violated one of its main principles, - to refrain from the threat or use of force against sovereignty, territorial integrity or political independence of any State. The online accreditation for journalists and media workers to attend the events during Pope Francis’ apostolic visit to Lithuania opens on 30 July. The deadline for online application is 13 August. The Market and Opinion Research Centre ‘Vilmorus Ltd.’ conducted a public opinion poll on foreign policy commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, which shows that Lithuanians consider foreign policy and diplomacy as important factors to ensure security of the country and its inhabitants. In addition, the residents of Lithuania basically approve the foreign policy of the authorities and advocate closer cooperation with other Baltic states and Poland, while they feel that Russia and Belarus are the greatest threats.

“I would like to sincerely thank the DFDS Seaways shipping company, officials and diplomats of Ukraine, Turkey, Denmark, Lithuania, Morocco and Algeria for their endless effort, dedication and skill that have led to the voluntary repatriation of all 12 illegal immigrants on board the Kaunas Seaways ferry sailing under the flag of Lithuania in the Black Sea,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius. The remainder of the immigrants abandoned the ship on 2 November and returned to their countries of origin through Odessa and Turkish airports.
