Added2022.12.19
Starting from 2 January 2023, the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania will start providing the service of issuing temporary residence permits in Lithuania through an external service provider “VFS Global”. Foreigners wishing to obtain a temporary residence permit in Lithuania will be able to submit their applications in 34 different countries, where VFS Global's offices will be located. The time allowed for examining the application and taking a decision will vary from 1 to 3 months.
In case the Migration Department takes the decision to issue the residence permit in Lithuania to a foreigner who had submitted the residence permit application abroad, the produced residence permit card will be sent abroad to the external service provider and handed to the applicant. Thus, the foreigner will no longer need to obtain a visa for entry.
All foreign nationals, regardless of their place of residence, legally present in the country, where services are provided, will be able to apply to the VFS Global office for the purpose of applying for the resident permit in Lithuania.
Additional information, as well as the list of countries where the offices of the external service provider VFS Global will be open may be found on the website of the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania.
The procedure of applying for national visas remains unchanged until 1 July 2023 – the national visas continue to be applied for at Lithuanian visa authorities abroad or through the external service provider .
